Dr Islam has been serving as an academician for the past four decades. He has played a number of prominent academic and administrative proles throughout his career. He served as Vice President and Dean of Iqra University, Islamabad Campus. He also held the positions of Associate Professor and Acting Director at the Area Study Centre, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, and Director of Academic Affairs at Bahria University, Islamabad. His international experience includes being an Instructor at the Department of Political Science, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, USA. Additionally, he has served as Visiting Faculty at various prestigious institutions in Pakistan. He has also served at the selection boards of Pakistan Development Institute (PIDE), Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad and University of Sargodha, Sargodha.
He has written a number of research papers which have been published in national and international journals. He also presented his research at a number of national and international conferences. His main areas of expertise include International Relations, with a special focus on US foreign policy, and political development in developing countries with a special focus on Central Asia and South Asia.
His institutional contributions include the establishment of academic programs, including Master in Political Studies, at Area Study Center Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, Social Science Bachelor Programs at Bahria University, Islamabad, and Social Science Bachelor and Master Programs at Iqra University, Islamabad Campus. His remarkable efforts have significantly enriched the academic landscape and provided valuable educational opportunities for students in Pakistan.
